James MacNaughton began building guns in Edinburgh in 1864 and actually patented and built the first Scottish round action triggerplate gun. John Dickson copied parts of his design for his now famous round action and MacNaughton took legal action against him for patent infringement. MacNaughton was eventually sold to Dickson in 1947. After a brief separation in 1995, they were amalgamated as Dickson & MacNaughton in 1997 as they remain today.
