L.C. Smith Monogram 2 Barrel Set, 12 bore, 2 3/4" chambers, ejectors, 28" steel barrel choked .037 Full and .037 Full, 26" steel barrel choked .004 Skt. and .012 IC, 7 lbs. 9 oz., 14 1/8" LOP to a checkered butt, 1 3/8 DAC, 2 1/16" DAH, neutral cast, pistol grip, both splinter fore-ends, Hunter single trigger, some case colors remaining in protected areas, tastefully figured walnut with fiddleback, beautiful fancy checkering with ribbons, spectacular engraving and some of the best ever done in this country and that would rival any English best, beautiful scroll engraving and on the left two setters and two quail on the lock and two larger roughed grouse ahead of the lock, on the right are two pointers and two woodcock on the lock and two ducks on a pond ahead of the lock, the bottom of the action has scroll with a quail head in the middle, beautiful scalloped fences with fancy border patterns engraved, the top lever has a setter head holding a quail in the center. According to Brophy's book on page 215, it is circa 1903. The gun was sent back to Hunter Arms at a later date and they added the 26" barrels with the same serial number and Hunter Arms in the rib and it has it's own fore-end. In 1998, Marvin Huey custom made this oak and leather case shown in the photo for the set and includes the full complement of accoutraments. A stunning gun and a real piece of American history in spectacular condition showing extremely little use or handling.
