Excellent and well cared for gun with sharp engraving, excellent wood and very good blue. Circa 1894.
This gun was made during a short and most interesting time period of Boss history. John Robertson had just taken over the company in 1891 and had implemented his first bar action design which would last only until 1897 when he patented his final design. This gun was made right in the middle of that period in 1894 and is made on this scarce transition bar action design. The "Boss's Patent Ejctor" engraving on this gun is also scarce and only used between 1891 and 1896. Famed engraver John James Sumner also began engraving all Boss guns when Robertson took over in 1891 and this gun was engraved by him. Overall, an important example of a Boss gun during interesting and changing times at Boss and made and engraved by two of the most beloved figures in British gunmaking history.
