Granger 8642 Possible Prototype, 8 ft. 6 in., 5/6 wt, 3/2, standard Granger screw-locking nickel silver reel seat marked made by Wright & McGill, brown wraps as usually seen on Aristocrat tipping and tipped in gold as usually seen on favorites, bright nickel silver ferrules and bright guides, hammer grip usually only seen on smaller rods, the butt section has visible resorcinol glue lines, non-typical Granger tube and bag. Being in Denver where Granger and Phillipson rods were made, there have been a few prototype rods show up. Most seem to possibly be the result of Bill Phillipson tinkering around with new ideas while Granger rod production was basically shut down during WWII and ahead of him trying to purchase Granger and in the end starting the Phillipson Rod Co.
