Winchester Pre-64 Model 70 Engraved Salesman's Sample, .30/06, 24" barrel with hooded front sight, non standard spring ramp rear sight, 9 lbs. with scope and mount, 14" LOP to an older Pachmayer pad. Redfield one piece base and rings with a Lyman Alaskan scope. Made in 1952. Gun is extensively engraved with scroll engraving on two sections of the barrel, bolt handle and knob, trigger guard and floorplate, bases and rings. The bolt knob also has some gold inlay with a sunflower design and the floorplate also has a gold deer. The previous owner had researched this gun and determined that the gun has a special mark on the barrel under the stock that Winchester confirmed was added to salesman's sample guns that were used to show dealers. Due to records being lost, they could not confirm or deny whether the custom shop had done the engraving. There is logic to the custom shop doing this work on a salesman's sample gun to showcase their work in hopes of getting engraving orders. Either way, it's a very unique and attractive rifle.
