Manton & Co. Sideplated Boxlock Double Rifle, .405 Win., 26" barrels, 14 5/16" LOP over a pad, pistol grip, 9 lbs. 4 oz., double triggers with articulated front, ejectors, full length rib with one fixed and two folding leaves on the inset rear sight, ramp front sight with flip-up low light bead, cheek piece, disc set strikers, automatic safety, side clips, dolls head rib extension, cross-bolt, barrels engraved "Manton & Co. Gunmakers" and "Calcutta & Delhi", horn grip cap and fore-end tip inly, drop points, bold acanthus engraving featuring urns on the sides and bottom of the action, breech end barrel engraving, sling swivels, circa 1925. The 1925 Manton catalogue shows this model available in .470 for African hunting and the .405 for Indian hunting appropriate for game up to and including Tiger. These rifles were made for Manton in Germany and have both German and English proof marks with the English showing 16.5 Tons. Excellent condition showing little use, nice and tight, bores are excellent, all engraving and checkering very sharp, barrel blue shows only a couple of small thinning areas.
