J.B. Moscrop Patent "Manchester" Reel, 3 1/2" diameter, One of the more illustrated and scarce British reels patented by John Moscrop in 1888 and again in 1891, Moscrop's fellow Manchester Angling Society members dubbed it the "Manchester Reel" which is still how many refer to it today. It's a one piece frame construction and the whole reel is made of brass with a deep black "japan" type finish over it, horn handle, marked on backplate "J.B. Moscrops Patent, Manchester" and on the bottom of the foot "J.B. Moscrop Manchester", drag adjustment knob on the front plate that turns an exposed screw and exerts pressue on the center spindle, eight spool center pillars form a bird cage around the drag mechanism to protect it from the line, audible winding check, the reel retains about 80% of its original finish and is in excellent mechanical condition, a very nice, scarce, collecible reel. Note: in the 1990's there were quite a few fakes of this reel being sold around the country along with a brass stamped fishing scene reel, I've had both in my hands and in fact helped the ORCA website write a story warning about the fakes, rest assured this is an original reel.
